Important Notice: Chromebook Care and Device Damage
Our school is reaching out today to address a concerning issue in our District since the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, we have experienced significant damage to our student Chromebooks, with over 150 units requiring repairs or replacements.
While we understand that accidents can, and do, happen, we all must work together to ensure the longevity and functionality of these devices, as they are crucial tools for learning. To avoid further damage and inconvenience, we request your cooperation in taking better care of these devices.
Below are some important guidelines to share with your student to ensure the proper care of their Chromebook both at school and at home:
- Handle with Care: Always treat your Chromebook carefully, avoiding drops, impacts, or rough handling.
- Safe Transport: Use a padded bag or protective case when carrying your Chromebook to and from school. Avoid placing heavy objects on it.
- Avoid Liquids: Chromebooks and liquids do not mix well. Please keep beverages and other liquids away from your device.
- Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the screen and keyboard. Avoid using abrasive materials or cleaners that could harm the device.
- Responsible Charging: Only use the provided charger and avoid overcharging your Chromebook. Remember to unplug it when fully charged.
- Prompt Reporting: If you accidentally damage your Chromebook, please report it immediately to the Library Media Specialist. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.
Our current rate of device damage is unsustainable. As a result, it may take longer to replace a damaged Chromebook as we work diligently to repair existing devices and secure additional loaners. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and kindly request your patience during this time.
Remember that these devices are provided to all students to support and enhance learning, and we are committed to providing all with the tools they need for success. By following these guidelines and taking good care of all Chromebooks, we can minimize disruptions and ensure every student has access to a functional device.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We appreciate your understanding and dedication to preserving these valuable resources.

Care Solace Resource
Hello Chilton Middle School Families:
RCSD is committed to the well-being of our students, staff, and families to create a safe and healthy learning environment. In support of our ongoing commitment, I wanted to take time to remind you about our District’s partnership with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care for our community.
Care Solace helps individuals find mental health care providers and substance use treatment centers. The Care Companion team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year to quickly connect you to carefully verified providers in your community.
Students, staff, and families may access Care Solace services in two ways:
- Call (888) 515-0595 at any time. Support is available in 200+ languages. A dedicated Care Companion will help you every step of the way to research options, secure appointments, and follow up to make sure it is a good fit.
- For an anonymous search, answer a few questions to get matched with an extensive list of care providers at www.caresolace.com/rcsdfamilies. Either search on your own OR click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.
Care Solace is available for use at no cost to you. They will connect you with providers accepting all medical insurances, including Medicaid, Medicare, and sliding scale options for those without insurance. All information entered on the Care Solace tool is confidential and securely stored.
Please note that this service is an optional resource available by choice and is not mandatory. Care Solace is not an emergency response service or mental health services provider.
In the event of a life threatening emergency, please call 911 or the National Suicide Hotline at 988. If there is an immediate need to connect to a trained crisis counselor, please call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org. 988 provides 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors that can help people experiencing mental health-related distress.
Thank you,
Jeff Ancker

- We want to remind all visitors and volunteers that some of our students are exempt from having their photo or information shared publicly. For student privacy purposes, please only photograph and/or video your own student(s) when on campus, while attending a class field trip, etc.
- Please do not share photos of any student besides your own on online platforms. If others are in the photo, please crop or blur/hide their faces.
- For safety purposes, also do not share room numbers or school site maps on online platforms
- Photos of students during events which are open to the community (after school hours festivals, sporting events, performances, etc.) are allowed. All attendees of these community events should be aware that photos and/or videos may be shared on online platforms.
Please contact me if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe.

Community Happenings and Resources
Please take a few moments to look through the different events happening throughout our community and the resources that are available to community members.
The Chilton PTC is looking for new members! See the attached flyer for more details.
Library Reminders
Here are a few other reminders from our librarian:
- DO NOT LOAN YOUR TEXTBOOKS/CHROMEBOOKS/LIBRARY BOOKS/ OR CHARGERS TO OTHER STUDENTS. Students are responsible for the care and return of all textbooks/Chromebooks/Library books and chargers checked out to them during the school year, whether left in the classroom or taken home.
- ALL LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS MUST BE PAID FOR. Please remember that your teachers are not responsible for your materials, even if they have been kept in the classroom.
- BILLS WILL BE MAILED HOME at the end of the school year for all missing textbooks, as well as those that are returned damaged. Please make checks for textbooks payable to Roseville City School District
- UNPAID FINES will remain on your student’s account until all books are returned or fines are paid in full. In addition, students with outstanding fines will not receive their yearbooks at the end of the year, and may not be allowed to participate in year end activities.
PLEASE CONTACT THE CHILTON LIBRARIAN FOR REPLACEMENT COST OF EACH INDIVIDUAL ITEM.
We encourage all families to purchase a Chromebook cover to help protect the Chromebook from any scratches or damage. To know which cover to buy, you can flip over the Chromebook and read the model number on the underside of the Chromebook. An example is shown below. You are looking for where it says "HP Chromebook __ __."
Cultural Fun Fact
Chilton Core Values
Chilton's September Core Value is RESPONSIBILITY.
At Chilton:
We believe responsible individuals are dependable and reliable and manage time and resources to bring about the maximum benefit so we can do our best work. Responsible individuals take ownership for their words and actions. As responsible citizens, we work in collaboration with and for others and know that many situations require a cooperative effort to reach a common goal.
Talk with your child about what RESPONSIBILITY means to your family!
Student Parent Handbook 2023-2024
Attendance
Attendance is vital for every child every day as lifelong habits are established in the early school years and contribute to student success throughout their school career and beyond. The best way to keep up with your student's curriculum pacing is to ensure they are in class daily and engaging with peers and their teachers.
Please be reminded that our upcoming vacation days for Trimester 1 are:
- Monday and Tuesday, October 30-31 (Teacher Workday/No Students)
Please try and schedule appointments on non-school days and after school. If your child will be absent for an extended period, please visit our district website or contact the school's front office to set up a short-term independent study contract. Reporting Absences
There are many ways to report your student's absence and it is important that you report it to us as soon as possible. We wanted to highlight the different options:
- Call - Chilton Office (916) 771-1875
- Google Form - Fill out the Chilton - Student Online Absence Reporting
- Email - ChiltonAttendance@rcsdk8.org
Deliveries, Food Drop-offs, and Messages to Students
Items delivered or left in the office by parents will not be delivered to students.
Traffic Reminders
- Please follow all traffic and parking laws on and around our school to help safeguard our students.
- Please do not park in front of other's driveways, garages, or designated no parking areas around the campus (including the bus loop) and surrounding neighborhood.
- Please make sure to obey instructions from the Crossing Guards (California Vehicle Code 2815).
Please no parking in the middle of the parking lot. This causes traffic back ups and doesn't allow others to pull out of their parking spots safely and efficiently.
Please make sure to safely pull forward as far as you can to keep traffic moving.
Have your student meet you at your car further down the line rather than at the beginning of the parking lot. This will allow traffic to flow more efficiently. Please use these two lanes only to drop off and pick students up.
Make sure to wear your orange and blue every
Friday to show school spirit!
